Work at Camp Royall – Join the Team!

We’re always looking for great people to work at Camp Royall! If you’re looking for a fun and fulfilling experience, you’re in the right place!

All staff members must provide references and complete an interview and background check before being hired. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated staff who are flexible and want to work hard and have fun while gaining an awesome learning opportunity.

No! What’s important is that you are enthusiastic and have a willingness to learn. It is very important to us that our staff are well-trained and receive proper support, so staff members attend a week of paid training before camp starts to learn about autism and strategies for working with the individuals we serve.

For summer camp, we hire Overnight Camp Counselors, Day Camp Counselors, Lifeguards, Cooks, and Nurses. At other times of the year, we hire part-time Counselors.

The primary responsibilities of our Counselors include encouraging campers through the scheduled activities and assisting and supporting in areas of communication, social interaction, behavior, and self-care. Our low counselor-to-camper ratios are crucial to the success of Camp Royall, so you will be working closely with one or two campers.

Each day, you will be participating with and assisting your camper through a variety of traditional camp activities. See a typical schedule here.

Weeklong overnight counselors work with their campers from Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon* with time off throughout the week as follows:

Monday-Thursday: off from 12:45-2:45 p.m. each afternoon

Sunday-Thursday: off each night from 8:30 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the next morning

Friday: week wraps up by 4 p.m.

Saturday: off all day

Sunday: off until 1 p.m. (we start the week with a staff meeting at 1 p.m.)

Day Camp Counselors work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*During the summer season counselors work 2 weeks of night duty as well as the schedule noted above, which impacts the daily off time schedule seen above, but weekend off time is the same.

Yes, former staff members have been able to earn college credit by setting up internships and practicums at camp. This process is initiated by the student, but we are happy to help.

We know there are a lot of things you could do with your summer. Our counselors have fun, but they also report that the experience is fulfilling and a great start to a variety of careers. Counselors learn skills related to leadership, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and more.
