We are grateful for the enormous outpouring of concern for the families we serve who were affected by Hurricane Helene. Many individuals with autism in western North Carolina have been displaced from their homes, schools, or other services.
When individuals with autism are in new situations or environments, they can feel uncomfortable, anxious, or frightened. We share your concern for them and would like to offer a way you can help to bring them comfort.
Assembling sensory kits is an important way you can support individuals with autism displaced by recent events. We recommend assembling your sensory kit in a backpack, small plastic tub, or other portable package using some of the items listed below. If you prefer to order one or two items, you can send those directly to us and we will assemble the kits and distribute them to families in affected areas.
Sensory kits may be dropped off or mailed to our office at: Autism Society of North Carolina, 5121 Kingdom Way, Suite 100, Raleigh, NC 27607. We will make sure the kits get to our families in need.
